Welcome to The Solo Admin® blog! I'm Matt Pogue, the solo admin for my organization. I've spent my entire career - 27 years - in IT, working everywhere from family-owned businesses with 2 employees to Fortune 500 companies. This career path has been very good to me and I've always wanted to do something to give back to the industry, to contribute at least some of the knowledge and support I've received over the years.
Looking around, I realized there were very few resources dedicated to solo admins - folks like me who are either the sole IT professional within an organization or an indispensable member of a small team. We understand what it's like to operate on a shoestring budget, wringing every drop of utility from the tools we've got to work with. This blog is also geared towards those who may be starting a new company and are drafted into the admin role by default.
So, if you've ever found yourself sitting alone in a darkened office at 2:00 a.m., frantically digging through forum posts and wishing that - just once - the buck stopped elsewhere, this blog is for you. If the question isn't whether your servers will be multi-purpose but how many different services they'll be running, this blog is for you. If you've run the cost-benefit analysis of sourcing your software from the Pirate Bay, this blog is for you. Welcome, fellow weary traveler!
